Abuabakri Yukubu- Lea, Tracy Ampah wins 2023 Interplast Open

Atomic Tennis Club’s star Abubakri Yakubu-Lea claimed his first victory against former Ghana No.1 Johnson Acquah to lift the 2023 Interplast Invitational Tennis Tourney.

 Abubakari Yakubu-Lea secured a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win at the Accra Lawn Tennis Club. "One of the best seasons I've had in my life, no doubt," Abubakari said. 

“It's very special. Overall, a phenomenal week, it means a lot to me, when you win against a player like Johnson who has been Ghana Number one." It was a tactical match and I managed to win, so I'm really, really happy." 

 After Abubakari Yakubu-Lea took the first set, Johnson leveled. In the final set, Yakubu-Lea outplayed Johnson Acquah to win 6-2. "I think I was really brave and intelligent at important moments. We both played really well, it was a high-level match," Abubakari Yakubu-Lea told ghanatennis.org.

 In the women’s final, Tracy Naa Ampah defeated Sisu Makena- Tomegah to win the women’s top 8 Interplast tennis tourney.

Tarkwa based Tracy Ampah , a former student of Accra Girls Senior High dominated the first set, struggled in the second set but found her rhythm to oust Sisu Makena-Tomegah in the final set.

 "I want to thank my coach Richard Achagawe and dad William Ampah who have been with me for the whole year,” said Tracy Ampah. 

 "We've had many ups and downs, but this is for sure an up, and we'll have many more if we keep working like that.”
