Abubakari Yakubu-Lea Beats Francky Martial Hoimian to take TFG Open ITF J30 Accra Week 2 Title

Ghana’s Abubakari Yakubu-Lea completed a magical week with a victory over Tennis Foundation Ghana Open’s ITF J30 Accra Week 1 champion Ivory Coast’s Francky Martial Hoimian in the boys’ singles final at the National Tennis Center, Accra. 

 The Atomic Tennis Club star Yakubu had already beaten Francky at their previous meeting in Togo. Yakubu beat the Ivorian 4-6, 6-4, and 7-6(5). It is his second ITF J30 title after winning the first title last year in April.

 “This ITF tournament is special for me because I wanted to get more points to get into the grand slam juniors next year’. Said Yakubu. After losing the first set by one break, Yakubu became very determined and won the second set 6-4.

 In the final set, Yakubu broke Francky to make it 6-6 games all and was in full control of the tie-break, thrilling the home crowd with the variety of his shots, keeping his opponent on the run to win the title. 

 In the girls' singles finals, number seven seed Ukraine international Sabrina Tolstova outplayed and outfought her opponent Ramisetty Kaajal of India 6-0, 6-3. 

 In the boys' doubles event, J30 week 1 champion Abubakari Yakubu-Lea and his partner Raphael Nii Ankrah lost in the final to Nigeria’s Joseph Jimoh Franklin and Canada’s Felix Roussel 6-4, 6-4.

Girls Doubles 1 seed, Ghana’s Sisu Tomegah and Tanzania’s Mao Shana Martin won the girls' doubles title after beating Doubles No.2 seed Nigeria’s Ohunene Comfort Yakubu and Cameron’s Charnelle Fozo 4-6, 6-4, (10-6).

 Tennis Foundation Ghana sponsored the ongoing tournament with support from the Second Serve Tennis Shop, Egalite Sports Bar and Restaurant, Accra City Hotel, Central Hotel, and Embassy Garden.
