Ghana fails to qualify for Billie Jean King Cup finals

Diamond Racquets hopes of qualifying into the next round of the ongoing Billie Jean King Cup semi-finals were crushed after the team lost to Tunisia in their fourth round match.

Team Ghana, after a slow start, made impressive results in the last two games, beating Seychelles and Mauritius, but lost their fourth game to Tunisia who lead the pool.

The day 4 Pool B event began with women's singles as No. 1 seed Elizabeth Kapari Bagerbaseh lost to Feryel Ben Hassen 2-6,7-6(1),1-6. No.4 seed Yvonne Bruce Tagoe who replaced No.2 Seed Sisu-Makena Tomegah due to fatigue, also lost to Chiraz Bechri 0-6, 0-6

In the doubles category, doubles specialist Annette Cruickshank partnered No.1 seed Elizabeth Kapari Bagerbaseh but were beaten by the Tunisia pair Hilba Heni and Ranim Rassil 2-6, 2-6.

Speaking after the game, the Coach Richard Ayi Dartey said that his changes were purely tactical.  Firstly, tactical change, Sisu-Makena played three sets ( singles and doubles ) and was exhausted, so I decided to introduce a fresh player and am sure of what Yvonne can do on the court.

"My players did their best, but Tunisia was a better and experienced team than us." Coach Ayi Dartey added.
