How Diamond Racquets Plotted Mauritius Downfall in Billie Jean King Cup and promises more

The Ghanaian Female tennis team (Diamond Racquets) believe the best is yet to come in the ongoing Billie Jean King Cup after beating Mauritius 2-1 in the third match of the competition at the Nairobi Club, Kenya.

Since Diamond Racquets lost their first opening match against Zimbabwe, the team has gone to win two matches ( against Seychelles and Mauritius) and will face Tunisia on Thursday.

Ghana's No.2 seed Elizabeth Kapari Bagerbaseh won 6-4,6-2 against Mauritius, Tippi Dalle Grave. No.1 seed Sisu-Makena Tomegah after winning the first set, fell short in the second set and final set,  lost 6-3,3-6,3-6 to Astrid Tixier.

In the doubles' event, head coach Richard Ayi Dartey decided to change his tactics used in the first two matches to maintain No.1 and No.2 (Elizabeth Kapari Bagerbaseh and Sisu-Makena Tomegah) which worked beating Tippi Dalle-Grave and Zara Lennon 2-6,7-6(5),6-1.

Speaking to ghanatennis.org Coach Richard Ayi Dartey said, Mauritius was a tough task, but I am happy our players did extremely well. Sisu lost because she played with an experience player. Annette had little discomfort, so I have to pair Sisu and Elizabeth. Sisu has great returns and Elizabeth too  is good at the net, that worked for us.

Ghana is now third with 5 points ( 6 matches played with 5 wins and 1 lose) after 3 games. Tunisia topping the Pool B with 9 points and Zimbabwe with 8 points. 4th on the league table is Mauritius with 4 points and Burundi also having 1 point, bottom placed Seychelles with no points.

Diamond Racquet will play Tunisia, and Head Coach Dartey says the Diamond Racquets are going into the game as underdogs.

Tunisia is tipped as a favorite to win the Pool B. Coach Dartey believes that notion will be reviewed immediately after the game against Tunisia.
