The National Tennis under 12 boys team began the ITF/CAT West Africa Championship campaign on a sound note with a 2-1 triumph over Benin in the opening group game at the National Tennis Center, Accra.
The host team Ghana's No.1 seed Jeffery Frimpong from PM sports opened the tournament with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Benin's Bebo.
In the second singles game, Ghana's Nii Ankrah lost to Benin's Alowakinnous 4-6, 2-6
In the doubles event: Jeffery Frimpong partnered with Eric Torto to outwit their Benin opponent 6-0, 6-1.
Ghana will face Burkina Faso in their next group game.
Speaking after the game, head coach Yahya Macculey said, I am happy about the win and we are not going to sleep after this triumph. We are going to prepare very well for the next game against Burkina Faso.
