Unseeded Akua Akoma Hansen booked her ticket into the Ladies Challenger Series III semifinals after beating tournament no.2 seed Tracy Ampah 6-4,5-5(D) on Wednesday at the National Tennis Center, Accra.
Akua Akoma will next play tournament No.4 seed Naa Shika Mckorley who progressed into the semifinals after ousting Lawrencia Aghoghorbia 6-3,6-1 on Thursday at 11 am.
In the first set Tracy, created two break points for 4-2 before Akua Akoma dug deep to hold and clinch the opener with another break to the set 6-4.
Remarkably the same pattern continued in the second set, Tracy moving to a double break point before Akua Akoma fought back from 5-3 with a forehand winner after a desperate scramble leaving even her opponent clapping to level at 5-5. Tracy retired making Akua Akoma to win the game.
In other semifinals game: Grace Tomegah reached the semifinals for the first time after overcoming No. 3 seed Annette Cruickshank 7-5,6-0. Grace will face No.1 sees Naa Mckorley who defeated Vanessa Akuaku 6-2,7-6(1)
