Accra Open 2021: Antwi  beats Fumi  to Win Title

Samuel Antwi produced an impeccable performance to beat  defending Champion Benjamin Fumi in the second edition of Accra Open. 

The Atomic tennis club's Antwi won 6-4,6-1 in an hour and 54 minutes at the National Tennis Center, Accra.

Antwi made a strong start by winning the first set and maintained his firm form to win the second set. 

Within two month, Antwi has won two trophies ( the National Ranking Tour 1 and the just ended Accra Open). "My goal is to give everything I have to be the best I can," said Antwi."I never had a goal to win an Accra Open but I tried best. Match after match I was playing better." 

Fumi, who was the defending champion, was trying to win the 2nd edition of the  Accra Open.After the match, Fumi said: "Congratulations Antwi and to your team as well. This has been absolutely deserved today. You were the more courageous player in the decisive moments and you deserve the title."


Earlier on, Akua Akoma Hansen won the Ladies Challenger Series title after overcoming Annette Cruicshank 6-2,6-2 in 1 hour and 10mins. 

The title is her second Ladies Challenger series title of the year, after winning the Ladies Challenger series IV.

The men's (Samuel Antwi) and women's winner(Akua Akoma Hansen) took home 2000 dollars each whiles the runner-ups( Benjamin Fumi and Annette Cruickshank) also had $1000 dollars each 

A philanthropist, Mr. Amoako Boafo, who sponsored the competition spoke to  ghanatennis.org and said, I'm really impressed with the performances exhibited by the players. The future looks bright for Ghana tennis'. He later urged the players to continue working hard.

The seven day event was coordinated by RT consult, sponsored by Amoako Boafo with support from Gallery 1957 and Kempinsky Hotel.
