The hills of Apirede came alive today as the community celebrated the official commissioning of its first-ever tennis court, on January 3rd 2026. This facility, situated on the grounds of the Presbyterian Basic School, represents a successful multi-stakeholder collaboration aimed at decentralizing tennis and making the sport accessible to rural youth.
The project was facilitated by a powerful partnership between the Accra Social Tennis Club, Tennis Foundation Ghana (TFG), and Staroil.
The ceremony was graced by high-ranking dignitaries who emphasized the importance of sports in holistic development. The court was officially commissioned by Nana Saforo Okoampah III, Chief of Apirede, alongside Hon. Dan Botwe, Member of Parliament for the Okere District.
Both leaders lauded the initiative for bringing modern sporting infrastructure to the district, noting that such facilities are vital for keeping the youth engaged in productive activities.
The choice of the Presbyterian Basic School as the host site was intentional. By integrating the court into a school environment, the sponsors aim to run a program where academic excellence and athletic discipline go hand-in-hand.
To inspire the local children, four talented athletes from the Tennis Foundation Academy showcased their skills in an exhibition match. Their agility and technique served as a tangible example of what young people in Apirede can achieve through consistent practice and focus.
This milestone would not have been possible without the collective effort of several groups:
To the People of Apirede: We extend our deepest gratitude to the traditional leadership and the entire community. Your enthusiasm and openness to this project provided the necessary encouragement to see it through. By welcoming this facility, you have opened a door of opportunity for your children. To our Sponsors (Staroil & Accra Social Tennis Club): Your financial and logistical commitment is a testament to your dedication to corporate social responsibility. You have helped plant a seed that will grow for generations. To Tennis Foundation Ghana: Thank you for your unwavering vision to spread the "gospel of tennis" to every corner of the country.
This project marks another chapter in the history of Tennis Foundation Ghana. The goal remains clear: to propagate tennis among small communities, identify untapped talent, and provide the youth with a lifelong sport that builds character.
