The boys’ and girls’ doubles competitions produced contrasting stories, with some finalists progressing in straight sets while others were forced to survive deciding-set tie-breaks.
In the boys’ doubles, Baudot and Heo secured their place in the final with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 victory over Nigeria’s Kater Barack Kpum and Seyi Ebenezer Ogunsakin.
The result ended the Nigerian pair’s run and sent Baudot and Heo into the title match with momentum after a composed performance across both sets.
Their final opponents will be the Spanish pairing of Raul Sanchez Romero and Javier Montes Jimenez, who survived a demanding three-set encounter against American David Beckles and China’s Ruoyu Hua.
Romero and Jimenez took the opening set 7-5 before Beckles and Hua responded strongly to level the match at 3-6.
The Spanish duo, however, held their nerve in the deciding match tie-break, winning 10-5 to book their place in the boys’ doubles final.
Nigerian pair reach girls’ doubles final
The girls’ doubles semi-finals also delivered high-quality competition, with Nigeria securing representation in the championship match through Ohunene Comfort Yakubu and Ogunjobi.
The Nigerian duo defeated the pairing of Goodnews Eyinjuoluwa Aina and Winner Gakpo after two tightly contested sets, winning 7-6 (3), 7-5.
Yakubu and Ogunjobi will now face Pippa Fennis and Milana Kolesova in the final.
The Fennis-Kolesova partnership booked its place in the title decider after overcoming Zimbabwean sisters Kudzai Erin Patience Chapepa and Kuzivaishe Chapepa 7-5, 7-3.
The result brings together four players from different tennis backgrounds in a girls’ doubles final that reflects the international character of the Accra tournament.
With the semi-finals now complete, attention turns to the finals, where the remaining pairs will battle for the ITF junior title and valuable ranking points.
The tournament has once again provided a competitive platform for young players from Africa and beyond to test themselves against international opposition in Accra.
