Mcdan Foundation Junior  Training Matches end in Style

Yakubu Abubakari Lea, Joseph Doe-Adjani, Donatus Nyaaba, Naa Shika, Doris Adjokatsa and Angel Bagerbaseh with outstanding performances clinched gold medals in the 12, 14 and 16 boys and girls categories respectively at the Mcdan Foundation Junior Training Matches at the National Tennis Center. 

The Saint John's Grammar student clinched his second title of the year on Saturday with a resounding 6-1,6-1, win  over Winneba based Lameck Bagerbaseh. 

The win inspires great promise for the Atomic Tennis Club prodigy after losing to Lameck in the finals(2020 ITF/CAT West and Central Africa Junior Championship). 

"I'm very happy to win my second title; this is a dream come true for me because I lost to him in the ITF under- 14 finals and going into the finals my focus was to avenge that loss. I'm very happy to win." Said the 15year old Yakubu Abubakari. 

In the 14 and under boys singles, top seed, Army Officers Tennis Club's Joseph Koku Doe-Adjani  overcame Aaron Armaah 6-2,6-0 to win the title while Donatus Nyaaba edged Godfred Ofori 6-1,6-1 in an all St. Francis Tennis Academy(Ashaiman) affair to claim the boys 12 and under title.

The girls event saw top seed, Naa Shika Mckorley prove phenomenal against Tarkwa Goldfields Tennis Club's Tracy Ampah in the girls 16 and under.  Naa Shika won 4-6,7-5,6-1.

Speaking to ghanatennis.org, Shika said, "I am very happy to win my first title, I'm happy to make my dad(Dr. Daniel Mckorley) proud and this is one of the tournaments that every Ghanaian player cherishes."

Doris Adjokatse from St. Francis Tennis Club ousted  Alice Acheampong of Shishijee Shade Tennis Club 6-3, 6-3 to win the girls 14 and under. 

Match of the day was the 12 and under category where two fast rising tennis stars Angel Bagerbaseh Bukari from Winneba Tennis Club and Tarkwa Goldfields Tennis Club Lisel Ampah battled each other in the finals that lasted 4 hours. At the end Angel Bagerbaseh proved her superiority over Lisel Ampah with a 6-4,4-6, 6-4. 

Tournament organizer, Mrs. Abigail Mckorley also said, "I am proud of the level of tennis exhibited by the junior tennis players." She added that the tournament has served as the springboard to the limelight for Ghanaian tennis players and Mcdan Foundation is determined to take it to that level.
