Philbert Azenko wins Northern Region's TFG/ITF U18 qualifying tourney.

Philbert Azenko from Bolgatanga Tennis Club emerged as the overall winner at the just ended Tennis Foundation Ghana ( TFG)/ ITF under 18 Northern Region qualifying event.

11 players from Upper West, Upper East and Northern Region participated in the two day tournament.

Without dropping a set, 15 year old Philbert Azenko won all his round-robin games followed by Zakariah Suleman from Tamale NEDCo Tennis Club.

Speaking to ghanatennis.org Philbert said, "it was not easy, but happy I won the tournament. Going into the nationals, I know it won't be easy but I will prepare hard not to let my tennis club(Bolgatanga Tennis Club) and the whole of the three northern regions down."

Runner up Zachariah Sulemana also said, "I want to thank the organizers; Tennis Foundation Ghana for such a tournament. This is what we want and I hope they will continue to bring tournaments to the northern regions."

Last weekend, players in the Central Region converged in Cape Coast where Gabriel Akakpo emerged the overall winner.

Winners from all the regions will converge at a yet to be chosen region for the playoffs. The eventual winner will earn a spot in the ITF Junior Tournament in August.

Dignitaries present during the two day tournament were Northern Regional Tennis Association Chairman who also doubles as the President of NEDCo Tennis Club Tamale; Bukari Moro Danladi and his vice president Dr. Mohammed Sulemana, GTF Executive member Sampson  Sayibu, vice president of Wa Tennis Club Brian Sotaa and captain of Bolga Tennis Club Joseph Ajaab.

Tennis Foundation Ghana bears all costs involved in every region the competition is held.
