Tournament No.7 seed Raphael Nii Nortei Dowuona secured the ITF J30 title after defeating Darsh Sachin Patel from Great Britain in Abidjan on Saturday.
Raphael recovered from a 3-6 deficit in the first set and sealed the victory following a break in the final set. Upon securing the win on his first point,
the 16-year-old expressed his triumph by yelling and raising both arms in the air. “It's been a long time coming,” Raphael stated. “It's an incredible feeling to achieve it. Moreover, the manner in which I accomplished it today was remarkable, and I was fortunate to have performed well today.”
Raphael Dowuona seeded No.2 commenced week two which is ITF J60 on a strong note with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Costa Rica's Assane Mobo Aka Patrice Assane.
Other Ghanaian competitors in the ITF J60 include Kwame Obeng Enti, seeded No.7, facing Poland's Maksymilian Kwiatkowski, and Daniel Nii Norkwei Adom battling Morocco's Mehdi Cherkaoui.
