Thomas Ohene Effah beautifully partnered Derrick Morgan to win the 2024 Army Officers tennis club 37, (AMTEC) Men’s doubles I title after beating Dan Adjetey/ Safo Boakye over the weekend.
The match anticipated match ended 7-6(5), 6-4 in favor for Thomas Ohene Effah and Derrick Morgan.
The week-long event was organized by the Executives of the Club, to bring togetherness among club members and also celebrate their Patrons who have always been there to support the Club in various ways.
Speaking to the media after the tournament, a member of the organizing committee said, "The most important thing is, tennis brings people together. We have a crop of wonderful members in this club, where the objective is for us to get together, play tennis, meet people and have good exercise.
I think tennis is a game which not only brings people together, but makes us healthy and above all, makes sure we work together as a team.
People dedicate their time to be able to come here and enjoy the game of tennis, and I'm absolutely delighted that the whole of the Executive was able to make an enormous contribution to bring us together as a team.
In other finals, Lola Mogaji and Andy Nortey in the mixed doubles category proved their superiority over Dela Tanson and Morgan in a game that ended 6-0, 6-4.
Dela Tanson and Lucy Naa Ankrah came from a set down to defeat Emefa Nukpe and her partner Sara Harrison-Afful 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 to win the Ladies doubles II title.
In the Ladies doubles I also witness Gifty and her partner Esi Benyiwa winning 6-0,6-1 over their opponent Stephanie Atekpe and Dr. Abena Boateng
In the men’s doubles I, Edward Ntim-Addae and his partner picked up the men’s doubles title with a win over Nii plant and Mr. Ocansah.
The final day was graced by Ghana Tennis Federation President Isaac Aboagye Duah who doubles as a member and a former executive of the Club, Patron Justice Edward Asante, Patron Charles Addo-Quaye, Patron Johnny Amegayibor, Patron Col. Richard Akotoh, Patron Col. John Freeman, Patron COP George Mensah and Patron Gabriel Agah.
The rest are, Patron Nana Yaa Dwamena, Patron Alhaji Osman, Patron Dr. Foster Gbabgo and Patron Brig. Gen. Dr. Nana Albert Adu
On the day, the Army Officers Mess Tennis Club celebrated their Patrons and also remembered and paid their respects to the members of the Club who had passed away.
