Ghana National Tennis team, the Golden Racket, has sustained its unbeaten run in the Davis Cup Zone IV qualification after defeating the Republic of Congo 3-0 in its second group match at Academia de Tenis Kikuxi Villas Club, Angola.
Ghana currently leads its pool with 6 points after two games.
No. 2 seed for Ghana, Samuel Antwi, once again, securing a win against Christian Saidi 6-1, 7-5.
No. 1 seed for Ghana Isaac Nortey outperformed William Bushamuka 6-4, 6-4.
Two debutants, Abukari Yanubu Lea and Raphael Nii Noitey Dowuona, paired up for the doubles, winning against Moise Kumase and Arnold Ikondo Moke 7-6(5), 7-5.
According to head coach Frederick Egyir, 'We are not underestimating any opponent. Every game has its strategy, and I am pleased it’s working perfectly. I am delighted for the debutants; the future is bright for Ghana tennis.'
Golden Rackets will face the host nation Angola on Friday. Angola had previously lost its opening match 0-3 to Congo and secured a 2-1 win against Mauritius in its second group match.
As it stands, the Golden Racket has qualified for the playoff, and a win against the host nation Angola will position Golden Racket to meet the second-place team from Pool B.
