Ghanaian Junior Stars Gwendolyn Duvor Klu and Jeff Frimpong Shine in Accra

Ghanaian youngsters Jeff Frimpong and Gwendolyn Duvor Klu have booked their places in the finals of the ongoing J30 Accra – Tennis Foundation Ghana Open / World Tennis Junior Tour at the National Tennis Centre in Accra.
Frimpong, the home favorite, secured his place in the boys’ singles final after overcoming Great Britain’s Denzell Darkey in a gruelling three-set semi-final.
The Ghanaian prevailed 7-6(6), 6-7(0), and 6-3 after three hours and 15 minutes of high-quality tennis.
Frimpong took the opening set in a tense tie-break, edging Darkey 8-6 in the breaker. The Briton responded strongly in the second set, forcing another tie-break and dominating it 7-0 to level the match at one set apiece.
With a place in the final at stake, Frimpong raised his level in the deciding set, securing a 6-3 victory to complete the comeback and advance to the championship match.
In the girls’ singles, Ghana’s Gwendolyn Duvor Klu, the No. 4 seed, also booked her place in the final after defeating Nigeria’s No. 2 seed Goodnews Eyinjuoluwa Aina.
Klu’s victory gives Ghana a strong presence in the singles finals, with the home players continuing their impressive campaigns on home soil.
The J30 Accra – Tennis Foundation Ghana Open, part of the ITF World Tennis Junior Tour, is being held at the National Tennis Centre in Accra, bringing together promising junior players competing for international ranking points and tournament honours.

One of the major changes this year is the introduction of a round-robin format. Players have been divided into eight groups of four, with each group winner advancing to the single-elimination quarterfinals.
This format guarantees every player a minimum of three matches, providing valuable competitive experience and more opportunities for young athletes to develop.

For four weeks, the Ace National Tennis Camp was ongoing in Accra. 60 select juniors in the 10 & Under and 14 & Under categories were put through drills and various match simulations to prepare them for the future.
