ACCRA, Ghana — Ghana’s Raphael Nii Nortei Dowuona and Kingsley Amenuveve Alormenu have secured places in the boys’ singles semifinals of the Tennis Foundation Ghana Open Accra ITF J60 tournament.
The competition, being held at the National Tennis Centre at the Accra Sports Stadium, has reached its decisive stages, with players from across the world battling for a place in the finals.
Dowuona produced an impressive performance in the quarterfinals, defeating China’s Ruoyu Hua 6-2, 6-1 to book his place in the last four.
The Ghanaian will face Great Britain’s Denzell Darkey in the semifinals after Darkey advanced when Morocco’s Ghali Salah-Eddine retired from their quarterfinal encounter.
In the other boys’ semifinal, Ghana’s Kingsley Amenuveve Alormenu will take on United States player David Beckles.
Alormenu secured his semifinal berth with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over India’s Shivtej Shirfule.
Beckles, meanwhile, overcame Israel’s Yarden Shalom Gamilel in a three-set contest, winning 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.
Girls’ Singles Semifinals
The girls’ singles draw will also feature a series of international clashes, with players from Europe, Africa, and the United States competing for a place in the final.
The Netherlands’ Pippa Fennis advanced to the semifinals after defeating Togo’s Winner Gakpo 6-2, 6-3.
Fennis will face Zimbabwe’s Kudzai Erin Patience Chapepa, who defeated Nigeria’s Gloria Samuel 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
In the other semifinal, Chapepa’s fellow Zimbabwean, Kuzivaishe Chapepa, will face United States player Elodie Agnamba.
Agnamba secured her place in the last four with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Nigeria’s Goodnews Eyinjuoluwa Aina.
The boys’ and girls’ singles semifinals are scheduled for Friday as the Tennis Foundation Ghana Open Accra ITF J60 tournament moves closer to its finals.
The tournament provides junior players with an opportunity to compete for valuable international ranking points and gain experience on the global tennis circuit.
