The latest week of junior international tennis in Accra has brought together promising players from across Africa, Europe, Asia and the United States, with valuable ranking points and the tournament titles now within reach.
Baudot and Beckles set for boys’ singles final
In the boys’ singles, France’s Antoine Baudot moved one step closer to championship glory after overcoming India’s Mannan Ashok Agarwal in a competitive semi-final.
Baudot won the opening set in a tense tiebreak, edging Agarwal 7-6(5), before taking control of the second set to complete a 7-6(5), 6-1 victory.
The Frenchman will now go into the final with the J60 title in sight as the Accra tournament reaches its climax.
American David Beckles also continued his impressive campaign in Accra, booking another place in a tournament final.
Beckles produced a strong performance against Ghana’s Kingsley Alormenu, racing through the opening set 6-0 before closing out the match 6-4 in the second.
The victory sends Beckles into the boys’ singles final, where he will look to add another major achievement to his Accra campaign.
Hwang and Fennis complete girls’ singles line-up
In the girls’ singles, South Korea’s Jiwon Hwang advanced to the final after defeating Nigeria’s Success Ogunjobi in two closely contested sets.
Hwang maintained her composure during the crucial moments to claim a 6-4, 6-4 victory and secure her place in the championship match.
Dutch player Pippa Fennis also booked her place in the final, continuing her strong run in Accra.
Fennis defeated American Elodie Agnamba 6-2, 7-6(2), surviving a much tighter second set before sealing the victory in the tiebreak.
The result gives Fennis a consecutive finals appearance in Accra, highlighting her consistency during the tournament.
Finals day awaits
With the singles finalists now confirmed, the J60 Week in Accra enters its final chapter.
The tournament has once again provided young players with an international platform to compete for ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors ranking points while gaining valuable experience against opponents from different parts of the world.
All roads now lead to finals day, with championship glory at stake.
