The TPG National Ranking Tour 3 (Men's) taking place in Accra from October 26 to 30 has set up a compelling narrative between two vastly different playing styles, as Samuel Aryettey and Lameck Bagerbaseh have blazed their trails through the competition. While Aryettey's tournament has been a testament to physical grit and mental fortitude, Bagerbaseh has delivered a masterclass in clinical efficiency, setting up an intriguing dynamic as the tournament reaches its business end.
Samuel Aryettey’s path began in the qualifying rounds on October 26, where he posted an impressive, disciplined 6-3, 6-3 victory over Benjamin Teye Baah.
However, his campaign turned into a battle of endurance during the October 28 fixtures. In his Round of 32 clash against Thomas Boakye Asare, Aryettey stumbled early, dropping the first set 2-6. Displaying remarkable composure, he recalibrated his baseline play to take the second set 6-2 before handing Asare a 6-0 shutout in the deciding third set. Just hours later in the Round of 16, Aryettey faced a near-identical test against Japheth Anwasiba Bagerbaseh.
After losing the opening set 3-6, Aryettey once again mounted a fierce comeback, controlling the tempo to claim the next two sets 6-2, 6-2. His back-to-back three-set recovery wins highlight a fighter who thrives under high-pressure conditions.
In sharp contrast, Lameck Bagerbaseh has cruised through the main draw bracket with ruthless speed. Entering the main draw on October 28 in the Round of 32, Bagerbaseh dictated play from the opening game against Amos Asante, wrapping up a clean 6-1, 6-3 win.
He returned to the court in the Round of 16 with even greater intensity, dismantling Michael Dosoo 6-2, 6-0 in a swift, dominant display.
Conceding a total of just six games across four sets of main draw tennis, Bagerbaseh enters the final stages completely fresh and in peak form. With Aryettey’s battle-tested resilience going up against Bagerbaseh’s flawless momentum, the stage is set for a thrilling climax to the National Ranking Tour.
In their semi-final match-ups, both players had to dig deep, playing three rollercoaster sets against their opponents to set up their places in the final of the men's event.
Samuel Aryettey dug deep against Joseph Bannerman, producing a comeback to behold; he managed to force a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over his opponent. Lameck, on the other hand, had a different story to tell, as he lost the first in a set tiebreak after going up 5-0 against Emmanuel Antwi. In the second, Lameck buckled down and managed a 6-4 win and proceeded to dominate the final set with a 6-3 win over his opponent.
The final will be a battle between the two as Lameck strives to claim his third national ranking title and Samuel fights for his first. As it all comes down to this, who will stand tall in the end?
